Job Description/Person Specification
We area family HR, Employment Law, GDPR and Health & Safety Consultancy firm offering UK-wide support to employers from every sector and of every size. We supply bespoke documentation, provide practical and commercial advice on HR issues, including consultancy and training and represent employers in tribunals.
We are looking for a hard-working, considerate, confident, and experienced Employment tribunal advocate/lawyer to join our team. This is initially a hybrid position as we gauge how employment tribunal claims may increase. Although you will predominantly be an advocate, which means picking up a small and ongoing caseload, you will also be available to support our consultancy team until such time as you have a full caseload. The ideal candidate will have 5y+ tribunal experience, and feel at home representing Respondents in hearings, both online (CVP) and in person. The ability to conduct hearings is essential.
This is an opportunity to join a small but close tribunal department. Quality of work is important to us. We are blessed to have a first-rate advice team, which means our case load is not excessive. Consequently, we are able to provide an exceptional service to our clients throughout the tribunal process, and you will be given the time to represent our clients to the best of your ability. We encourage our advocates to visit our clients.
You will collaborate with the wider Wirehouse team on training as and when required, and support staff with their queries as and when they arise.
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- A strong knowledge of all areas of Employment Law & HR.
- Good people skills, proficient in forming effective relationships internally and externally.
- The ability to effectively review and analyse large amounts of documentation.
- Excellent drafting skills.
- Proven advocacy skills.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Be able to work as part of a team.
- Be conscientious and hard working.
- Be able to work independently and be self-motivating.
- Have an empathetic approach to both client and claimant.
- Educated to A level standard you will preferably hold a law degree or be CIPD qualified, but we will consider applications from all candidates with relevant experience providing advice on Employment Law and HR issues.
- Applications are particularly welcome if you are currently working in an Employment Law/HR Consultancy environment.
What does the role involve?
- Reviewing and analysing ET1s.
- On-going legal research as part of the analysis of each claim.
- Reviewing paperwork received from the client and determining what is relevant.
- Liaising closely with the client (in person if needed) to draft and finalise the ET3.
- Adhering strictly to tribunal orders.
- Preparing bundles.
- Drafting witness statements.
- Attending both preliminary and full merit hearings either remotely or in person (which means on occasion working away from home).
- Attending weekly team meetings.
- Occasional Delivery of HR and Employment Law training and webinars, both remotely and in person
- Conducting and/or supporting our clients with disciplinary, grievance and other internal investigations/hearings/procedures
- Production of occasional articles for the Wirehouse Newsletter.
- Any other reasonable duties as directed by the Head of Employment Law and Advice Line Manager.
